REVIEW: The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

Continuing with The Ordinary skincare range reviews, next is the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 serum.

You can find my review for the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% review here. The packaging is identical to the Niacinamide serum. As I said in my previous review, I like it because it's easy to store, it's hygienic and it doesn't look cheap. It's 6,80€ at The Ordinary's site and it contains 30 ml of product.

The first ingredients after water are the Sodium Hyaluronate and Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer which are moisturizers. Panthenol is a moisturizer and an antistatic. Ahnfeltia concinna Extract (a red algae species) is an antioxidant. Glycerin is a solvent and a moisturizer. Pentylene Glycol is a moisturizer. Propanediol is a solvent and a viscosity control agent. Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6 is a viscosity control agent. PPG-26-Buteth-26 is an antistatic and an emulsifier. PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is a surfactant and an emulsifier. Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate is a chelating agent. Citric Acid is a pH adjuster. Ethoxydiglycol is a solvent and a viscosity control agent. Caprylyl Glycol is a moisturizer and an emollient. Hexylene Glycol is a surfactant, solvent and an emulsifier. Ethylhexylglycerin is a moisturizer. The Ordinary claim that this product contains 3 different hyaluronic acid molecules with different molecular weights that allow the skin to be hydrated deeply because the smallest molecules can penetrate in the deeper layers. The standard hyaluronic acid molecule is too big to really penetrate the skin and it stays on its surface. Because of it's water-absorbing properties that means if there isn't enough moisture in the environment, that sort of molecules will actually drain the water from the deeper layers of the skin to the surface. If The Ordinary really did put nano hyaluronic acid molecules in this serum, this would mean, it would actually have superior moisturizing properties than your average hyaluronic product. The Ordinary твърдят, че продуктът съдържа 3 различни молекули хиалуронова киселина с различно молекулярно тегло, което позволява на кожата да бъде дълбоко хидратирана, защото малките молекули могат да проникнат в дълбоките слоеве. You can use this product in the bathroom after shower, where the air humidity would be high so the serum can work better but what I personally do is spray 3-4 pumps of mist (currently using Kikumasamune Brewing Sake Skin Care Lotion High Moist) on my face and apply the serum while my skin is still wet.

Можете да използвате продукта в банята след душ, където влажността на въздуха ще бъде голяма и серумът ще работи по-добре, но аз лично пръскам 3-4 помпички тоник (в момента използвам Kikumasamune Brewing Sake Skin Care Lotion High Moist) на лицето и после нанасям докато кожата ми е още влажна.

I didn't expect much from this serum other than hydration and I wasn't disappointed. My skin feels more hydrated if I use it regularly and it was especially helpful when I was feeling dehydrated. I would highly recommend this as a good cheap serum for dehydrated skin!

The texture of the product is still gel-like, similar to the Niacinamide serum but a little bit lighter. It quickly dries down to matte finish. This product does pill if you use some oils on top of it, it didn't work very well with the Squalane Oil by The Ordinary and B.O.N. Nourishing Skin Oil but I didn't experience any pilling with TO's Argan Oil and Cattier's Multi-Purpose Dry Oil so I guess you have to test for yourself to determine which oils work well. I heard a lot of people complain about the tacky texture but I have no problems when I'm using the proper oil, The matte finish makes this product extremely easy to layer with other products. In fact, the more layers I apply on top of it, the more I don't feel the tackiness and it goes away completely by the time I've applied my cream. From what I can tell the product is odorless.

Продуктът се лющи, ако използвате някои олиа върху него, не се сработи много добре със Squalane Oil на The Ordinary и B.O.N. The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 is a very affordable efficient serum against dehydration and I already have a backup of it because I'm certain I will need when it gets colder. I highly recommend it to people with dehydrated skin .
