REVIEW: Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Essence SPF 50+ PA++++ (2015)

As I promised this summer will be sunscreen review heavy. Today I'm talking about Skin Aqua UV Moisture Essence SPF 50+ PA++++ that I ordered because someone recommended it for dry skin. Skin Aqua as a line are under the parent company ROHTO. The Super Moisture Essence comes in a huge 80g squeezable bottle and it cost me a little under $11 with shipping from eBay so it's pretty affordable.

It took me a whole hour figuring out the ingredients and which version exactly I got but from what I saw in the eBay seller's page and ingredients I had to manually translate with the Google translate app (so hopefully they are accurate), this is the 2015 version. I don't know why all of the images I found online show a slightly different packaging but if you got the same, this is the 2015 version and you can find its ingredients below. Japanese sunscreens are super confusing because they get repackaged and reformulated constantly and it means that unless the product looks 100% the same as the person who reviewed it / translated the ingredients, you can never fully be sure you have the exact same formulation.

The first ingredient after water is Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate (also known as Octinoxate), a chemical UVB filter. Butylene Glycol is used as a solvent and a moisturizer. Ethanol is a solvent, in the case of sunscreen it helps for its quicker absorption by the skin. Dimethicone and Isononyl Isononanoate  are emollients. Glycerin is a solvent and a moisturizer. Triethylhexyl Trimellitate is an emollient. Methyl Methacrylate / Glycol Dimethacrylate Crosspolymer is a thickening agent. Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine (also known as Tinosorb S) is a full spectrum chemical UVA and UVB filter, it's my favorite. Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate (also known as Uvinul A Plus) is a chemical UVA filter. Sodium Acetylhyaluronate (it was marked as super Hyaluronic Acid on the packaging) is a moisturizer that apparently does an even better job than the regular salt of Hyaluronic Acid. Sodium Hyaluronate is a moisturizer. Hydrolyzed Collagen is listed as an emollient, a moisturizer and an antistatic although I remain skeptical about its benefits when applied topically. Arginine (an amino acid) is an antistatic and a moisturizer. PEG-12 Dimethicone is an emollient and an emulsifier. Acrylates / C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer is a viscosity control agent. Polyglyceryl-10 Pentastearate is an emulsifier. Polystyrene is a viscosity control agent. Polyvinyl Alcohol is a viscosity control agent and an emulsifier. Triethanolamine is a pH adjuster. Disodium EDTA is a chelating agent. Xanthan Gum  is a viscosity control agent. Methylparaben is a preservative. The product has relatively short ingredients list for a sunscreen. It provides very high broad spectrum protection and from what I found it is not water-resistant so not a good idea for pool parties and the beach. In my case, 99% of the time I am using sunscreen is in urban condition so it doesn't bother me at all. This sunscreen is advertised as good for dry skin after all it's called "super moisture essence" but it contains alcohol. I don't find it too strong however and it's definitely not drying. In fact, I believe it has really low amount of alcohol because it takes it a whole lot of time to absorb compared to other sunscreens such as Bioré UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence and Bioré UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel.

Тази слънцезащита е рекламирана като добра за суха кожа, все пак се казва "супер хидратираща есенция", но съдържа алкохол. Не го намирам за много силен обаче и определено не е изсушаващ. Всъщност, мисля, че е в съвсем малко количество, защото отнема доста време до пълно абсорбиране сравнена с други слънцезащити като Bioré UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence и Bioré UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel.

The cream has a watery consistency and it's very easy to spread, it's not one of these thick sunscreens. It takes a while to fully dry and it leaves a very dewy finish. If I use heavier cream before this, I find that my skin feels a bit too greasy so very often when I've been lazy, I've completely skipped my AM cream and I've applied this because it can easily replace your moisturizer if your skin is not particularly dry.

Ако използвам по-тежък крем преди него, обикновено кожата ми се чувства твърде мазна, затова често когато ме мързи направо пропускам сутрешния крем и нанасям продукта директно, защото може да замести хидратанта, ако кожата ви не е много суха.

I usually set this with a bit of powder because the dewiness was way too much for me. It looked really beautiful when it was colder but considering temperatures are over 35C now, this sunscreen is not exactly my first choice for the day as it tends to melt.

I am very pale. so under natural lighting I don't see any white cast on me. You can see, however, it does have some cast when photographed with flash. But we all know, we shouldn't be wearing sunscreen if we're about to take photos with flash. The product has a very mild pleasant fragrance that doesn't bother.

Аз съм много бяла, така че на естествена светлина няма никакъв отенък върху мен. Както виждате обаче, има лек отенък когато е сниман със светкавица. Но всички знаем, че не трябва да носим слънцезащита, ако ще снимаме снимки със светкавица. Продуктът има много нежен приятен аромат, който не ме притеснява.

I found this sunscreen to be very cosmetically elegant, it is multifunctional because it's the only one I have found to replace my moisturizer with. It is excellent for my dry and irritated skin days but I don't find it very suitable for summer because its dewy finish makes too shiny and oily looking and that itself makes it melt when it's hot, so you would have to set it with powder every couple of hours. I certainly see myself repurchasing it for the colder months however.

Намирам тази слънцезащита за много козметично елегантна както и мултифункционална, защото може да замени крема. Отлична е за дни когато кожата ми е суха и раздразнена, но не я намирам много подходяща за лятото, защото има твърде лъскав завършек и ме прави много мазно изглеждаща, а от там започва и да се разтапя когато е горещо, така че трябва да я фиксирате с пудра на всеки няколко часа. Определено бих си я купила отново за студените месеци обаче.

Overall, this is worth checking if you have dry or very dry skin and you want something that will moisturize and won't accentuate dry patches. You can easily skip it if your skin is combo / oily because it will be too strong for you. What I like:  Huge amount of product (80 g) Convenient packaging  Very affordable (around $11)  Light watery consistency  Easy application  Pleasant fragrance  Looks beautiful on dry skin It can replace moisturizer for normal skin What I don't like:  Finish is too dewy  Melts when it's very hot All in all: 4,3/5 Talk to me about your favorite sun protection this summer!
