REVIEW: Biotherm Anti-Drying Melting Milk SPF 50 PPD 16 (2016) | Sun After Oligo-Thermal Milk Intense Moisturization

I got these two in a kit for 12€ which is pretty good deal, thank you French parapharmacies! Biotherm has been my go-to brand for sunscreen for two years now mostly because they have moisturizing sunscreen and they are quite affordable.

First of all, I really like Biotherm's design for their sunscreen line. Turquoise font on yellow background, it's gorgeous and looks super fresh!

The Anti-Drying Melting Milk is a hydrating lotion that you can use on your face and body but since this is a bit too heavy and I use plenty of hydrating layers on my face, I have never tried it as a face sunscreen. I have SPF 50, but there's also SPF 30 and SPF 20 (I think there's SPF 15 too). I see no reason not to buy the highest protection considering they all cost the same and the formula is pretty similar.

It comes in a super sleek packaging and it contains 200 ml of product. I just saw there's also a size of 400 ml and I would love to get it but I've never seen it around in the French pharmacies I go to. I actually prefer my sunscreen to be in pump-less bottles because the pump usually splatters it every-freaking-where. And waterproof sunscreen is pretty hard to wash off and remove and when it stains the clothes I just put on, it's extremely annoying. Anyway, I love this packaging and I find it super convenient.

The first ingredient after water is C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate which is an emollient. Octocrylene is a chemical water-resistant UVA and UVB filter. Propylene Glycol is a solvent, a viscosity control agent and a moisturizer. Glycerin is a solvent and a moisturizer. Ethylhexyl Salicylate (also known as Octisalate) is a salt of Salicylic Acid (a BHA) is a chemical UVB filter. Isohexadecane is a solvent and an emollient. Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane (also known as Avobenzone) is a very good chemical UVA filter that also absorbs small amounts of UVB. Titanium Dioxide is a physical UVA and UVB filter. Nylon-12 and Zea mays Starch (corn) are viscosity control agents. Alcohol Denat is a solvent that in the case of sunscreen products helps them absorb quicker. Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine (also known as Tinosorb S) is an excellent UVA and UVB filter, it's one of the new generation filters that covers fully both UVA and UVB, it also helps the stabilization of Avobenzone. PEG-100 Stearate and Potassium Cetyl Phosphate are surfactants. Glyceryl Stearate is an emollient and an emulsifier. Synthetic Wax is a viscosity control agent, an antistatic and an emollient. Stearic Acid is a surfactant, a viscosity control agent and an emulsifier. Triethanolamine is a pH adjuster. Phenoxyethanol is a preservative. Dimethicone is an emollient. Caprylyl Glycol is a moisturizer and an emollient. Terephthalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid (also known as Mexoryl SX) is a chemical UVA filter. Palmitic Acid is an emollient and an emulsifier. Aluminum Hydroxide is a viscosity control agent. Limonene is a solvent and a fragrance. Xanthan Gum and Acrylates / C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer are viscosity control agents. Disodium EDTA is a chelating agent. Linalool is a fragrance. Tocopherol (a derivative of vitamin E) is an antioxidant. Vitreoscilla Ferment is a mysterious moisturizer. Citrus grandis Fruit Extract (grapefruit) is a moisturizer and a preservative. Citronellol and Citral are fragrances. Benzyl Alcohol is a preservative, solvent and a fragrance. You can find the ingredients on CosDNA here. Citral scores in red because it can be very sensitizing and it can provoke allergies.

The formula of this sunscreen is a very hydrating lotion. I personally wouldn't call it a milk because it's a little bit too viscous for it to be one. It feels very hydrating on the skin and it leaves a slightly oily film. Unlike a lot of the dry oils and sprays, this doesn't look truly greasy but it kinda leaves you with a natural healthy glow that I quite like. The fragrance is fantastic! This smells like a tropical vacation. Yes, if tropical vacations had a scent, it's this sunscreen! And that speaks a lot because I haven't found another sunscreen that has a fragrance I am really a fan of. The scent also lasts for hours, so if you don't like it, don't buy it. It doesn't go away quickly and I've had people ask me what perfume I am wearing when I've used this sunscreen.

Усеща се много хидратиращо на кожата и оставя лек мазен филм. За разлика от много сухи олиа и спрейове, не изглежда наистина мазно, някак си ви оставя с един естествен лек блясък, който аз много харесвам. Ароматът е фантастичен! Ухае на тропична ваканция. Да, ако тропичните ваканции имаха аромат, би бил тази слънцезащита. А това говори много, защото досега не съм намерила друга слънцезащита, чийто аромат наистина да харесвам. The product is super easy to apply and it doesn't take ages to dry, probably due to the alcohol in it. Yet, it's not drying at all like some oils I've used and I don't feel like my skin gets drier if I use this sunscreen on a daily basis. This sunscreen also has a really decent protection with great water resistant new generation filter that leave very little white cast and are generally rather cosmetically elegant so ingredients-wise, this is something worth trying.

В същото време, не е изсушаващ като някои масла, които съм ползвала и не усещам кожата ми да става по-суха когато го използвам ежедневно. It doesn't have much of a white cast on me. I assume if you are darker and if you take photos with flash, you might see some cast since it does contain Titanium Dioxide but for a day sunscreen, it's perfect.

Върху мен няма бял отенък. Предполагам, че ако сте по-тъмни и правите снимки със светкавица, може и да видите лек отенък, тъй като съдържа титаниев диоксид, но за ежедневна слънцезащита е идеален.

I am absolutely in love with this and I am on my second bottle of it now and I plan to repurchase when it's back in stock at the pharmacy (last time they didn't have SPF 50). This is a fantastic sunscreen if you want something hydrating that doesn't lean oily. And the fragrance is a huge bonus!

Влюбена съм в него и в момента ползвам втора опаковка, и смятам да си го купя отново когато го заредят в аптеката (предишния път нямаше фактор 50). Това невероятна слънцезащита, ако искате нещо хидратиращо, което не избива на към мазно. А ароматът е огромен бонус!

Now, moving on to the Sun After Milk, that's usually a product I wouldn't even look at. I don't really see any reason to buy after sun products when I have so many body lotions and plenty of snail and aloe gels to apply on my skin after longer exposures. But since this came in the kit and was virtually free with the sunscreen, I decided to give it a go.

Same packaging, but blue colors, it's still very pretty. It contains 200 ml and it's pretty pricey on its own depending on where you get it, it varies from pricey to ridiculously expensive. I was sent a body butter that supposedly smelled like Jasmine in Birchbox that has the same scent as this milk. I find it a bit too chemical and boring. Such a shame it doesn't have the same fragrance as the sunscreen!

The first ingredient after water is Glycerin, which is a moisturizer and a solvent. Isohexadecane and Cyclohexasiloxane are solvents and emollients. Alcohol Denat is a solvent and can be a bit drying, personally I would prefer to avoid it in lotions. Cyclopentasiloxane is a solvent and an emollient. Tocopheryl Acetate (a derivative of vitamin E) is a moisturizer and an antioxidant. Paraffinum Liquidum is a solvent, an occlusive and an antistatic. Dimethicone is an emollient. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is an occlusive and a fragrance. Ceteareth-12 is an emulsifier. Butyrospermum parkii Butter (shea) is a moisturizer and an emollient. Glyceryl Stearate is an emollient and an emulsifier. Phenoxyethanol is a preservative. PEG-100 Stearate is a surfactant. Panthenol is an antistatic and a moisturizer. Prunus armeniaca Kernel Oil (apricot) is an emollient. Cetyl Alcohol is a surfactant, a viscosity control agent and an emollient. Dimethiconol is an emollient. Coriandrum sativum Oil (coriander) has unknown functions. Acrylates / C10-30 Alkyl Magnesium Gluconate has unknown function. Menthoxypropanediol is a fragrance. Sodium Hydroxide is a pH adjuster. Linalool is a fragrance. Butylparaben is a preservative. Ribes nigrum Oil (black currant) is an emollient. Echium lycopsis Root Extract (Paterson's curse) is a moisturizer. Vitreoscilla Ferment is a moisturizer. Disodium EDTA is a chelating agent. Butylphenyl Methylpropional is a fragrance. Ethylparaben is a preservative. Sodium Chloride is a viscosity control agent. Propylparaben is a preservative. Zinc Gluconate is a zinc salt that might have anti-inflammatory and healing properties. Limonene is a solvent and a fragrance. Benzyl Salicylate (a Salicylic Acid salt) is a BHA that also acts like a sunscreen. Copper Gluconate and Manganese Gluconate (salts of copper and manganese respectively) both with supposedly some anti-aging and antioxidant benefits but studies are hard to impossible to find so take it with a pinch of salt. Quite honestly the ingredients couldn't be more disappointing, top ingredients are mostly silicones that work okayish as occlusives but don't really provide any moisture. This product is very heavily fragranced to the point of it actually stinging a bit if I use it on my just shaved legs. It's possible it's because of the alcohol too.  All of the potentially cool stuff are right at the bottom of the list. I find this product extremely overpriced for what it is and literally any drugstore moisturizer will do the same job. The milk doesn't even have any real oils and butters in the top 10 ingredients to actually nourish the skin. It's why when I apply it, it feels like a silicone layer of silkiness but my skin is still kinda dehydrated under the surface. Alcohol doesn't really make this work any better either. I don't know who the heck formulated this, but they need to take a good look of how bad it actually is and start doing better from now on, especially considering Biotherm is far from your drugstore brand that sells 250 ml moisturizers for 3€.

Честно казано, съставките не можеха да са по-разочароващи, първите съставки са предимно силикони, които стават за оклузивен слой, но не предлагат никаква хидратация. Продуктът е много силно ароматизиран и чак ми щипе на току що избръснати крака. Възможно е и да е от алкохола. Всички потенциално готини неща са най-долу в списъка със съставки. Намирам този продукт за изключително надценен, за това което прави и буквално всеки един хидратант от дрогерията ще ви свърши същата работа. Млякото дори няма истински масла в топ 10 съставките, които реално да подхранят кожата. Затова и когато го нанасям се усеща като силиконов слой от изкуствена мекота, но кожата ми си остава дехидратирана отдолу. Алкохолът също не му помага в тази насока. Не знам кой точно е формулирал това, но трябва добре да го огледат и да видят колко е ужасно и следващия път да се справят по-добре, особено тъй като Biotherm са далеко от дрогерийната марка, която продава 250 мл хидратанти за 3€.

In a nutshell, definitely try the melting milk, skip the horrible overpriced after sun milk! Biotherm's sunscreens are definitely interesting and are worth looking at. I want to try the entire line because so far I haven't been disappointed and I am very very picky when it comes to my sunscreens, if you haven't noticed. I am not too sure if I want to try the body and skincare lines considering how poorly that after sun milk performed but who knows, maybe I'll find something intriguing one day.
