REVIEW: Biotherm Moisturizing Dry Touch Mist SPF 50

Despite having some rainy/stormy relapses, the weather is getting warmer and warmer and it's time to take out the body sunscreen. Biotherm Moisturizing Dry Touch Mist SPF 50 is the sunscreen I discovered last summer and absolutely fell in love with. By the way, the sun protection video I've promised is on the way, I am doing research on it currently.

The sunscreen comes in sleek bottle that contains 200 ml of product and you need to shake it well before use. What got me into the product other than the good filters is the "dry touch mist". A mist sunscreen? I'm in! The packaging is really convenient and the spray makes it really easy and quick to apply.

Този продукт пристига в красив флакон, който съдържа 200 мл продукт и трябва да се разклати добре преди употреба. Освен добрите филтри, в продукта ме впечатли и "спрей със сухо усещане". Спрей слънцезащита? Искам! Опаковката е много удобна, а спреят го прави много лесен за нанасяне.

The product is with SPF 50 / PPD 16 which is the maximum protection for both UVB and UVA respectively. It's also water resistant and it can hold up to 40 minutes under water which is good if you're planning to use this during a vacation. I haven't tried it this way yet (because I don't really tons of vacations) but it's excellent in city conditions.

The first ingredient after water is Homosalate which is a very common chemical UVB filter found in most sunscreens. Studies shown it can influence hormones in vitro but keep in mind a function in vitro is not always the same in vivo. It's water resistant and it's used with other filters because it doesn't offer enough protection on its own. Dicaprylyl Ether is a solvant and an emollient, and probably the ingredient that makes this product moisturizing. Octocrylene is an UVB (mostly) and UVA chemical filter. It's a strong photoallergen for some people and it's good having this in mind if sunscreen sometimes breaks you out. Ethylhexyl Salicylate is also an low UV chemical filter. Dimethicone is an emollient. Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane (aka avobenzone) is an UVA (mostly) and UVB chemical filter and it's apparently one of the more effective ones against UVA. Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer is film forming agent. Drometrizole Trisiloxane is both UVA and UVB chemical filter. PEG-30 Dipolyhydroxystearate is an emollient, Nylon-12 is a viscosity control agent. Dicaprylyl Carbonate is an emollient. Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer is a film forming agent. Cyclohexasiloxane is a solvent and emollient. Polymethylsilsesquioxane is an opacifying agent. Isododecane is a solvent and a fragrance. Ethylhexyl Triazone is a UVB chemical filter and it's considered to be very photostable. Phenoxyethanol is a preservative. Lauryl PEG / PPG 18 /18 Methicone is an emulsifier. Sodium Chloride is a viscosity control agent. Caprylyl Glycol is a moisturizer and an emollient. PEG-8 Laurate is an emulsifier. Limonene and P-anisic Acid are fragrances. Poly C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate is a viscosity control agent. Tocopherol is a form of vitamin E and it's an antioxidant. Disteardimonium Hectorite and Disodium EDTA are viscosity control agents. Linalool and Dodecene are fragrances. Poloxamer 407 is an emulsifier. Propylene Carbonate is a solvent. Citronellol, Citral and Benzyl Alcohol are fragrances, the last one also a preservative. Analyzing sunscreen ingredients must be one of my least favorite parts about blogging. The problem is once you search the filters in NCBI, it will show you studies how some are photo unstable, others cause irritation and so on. The point is, actually in a formula, filters can and tend to stabilize each other. If you're reading how chemical filters are supposedly toxic and dangerous, don't be scared unnecessary. A lot of people take studies out of context like the fact that Homosalate was proven to be hormone disruptive in vitro but in fact other study showed it doesn't really penetrate to the dermis layer of the skin, so what it does in vitro is probably irrelevant. This particular sunscreen seem to have a lot of filters and definitely covers well both UVA and UVB spectrum. Most of the filters are also oil-soluble which means the product is water-resistant. (And hard to wash off but that's another story!)

Проблемът е, че щом започнете да търсите филтрите в NCBI, ще ви покаже изследвания как някои за фото нестабилни, други предизвикват раздразнения и т.н. Обаче, всъщност в една формула филтрите могат да се стабилизират помежду си и го правят. Ако четете, как уж химичните филтри били токсични и опасни, не се плашете ненужно. Много хора имат навика да вадят изследванията извън контекст, като фактът, че Homosalate е доказан, че възпрепятства хормоните in vitro, но всъщност друго проучване показва, че изобщо не прониква в дермата на кожата, така че функциите му in vitro най-вероятно са ирелевантни. Този слънцезащитен продукт има доста филтри и определено покрива добре UVA и UVB спектрите. Повечето филтри са разтворими във масла, което значи че продуктът е водоустойчив. (И труден за отмиване, но това е друга история!)

It is very important to mentally note that spray sunscreens are shown to be less effective because people tend to apply less and not the get the maximum protection. To ensure I've applied the necessary amount I simply layer it twice. The product has a really thin and watery texture which is something I personally love. It It doesn't contain alcohol, which a lot of the sunscreens have (in fact I bought this one because it was one of the few that didn't) and if I use it on a daily basis it really dries out my skin. The mist is indeed very moisturizing and it leaves a protective layer on my skin but it doesn't feel heavy or sticky even when it's really hot.  I wouldn't call this a dry touch mist though because it really doesn't leave matte finish, in fact it gives my skin a really beautiful glow that I personally really really like. (People like me who can't tan, enjoy even their sunscreen glow, lol). This sunscreen has the best most unique fragrance I've ever smelled in a sunscreen and it lasts all day! It's sort of my summer perfume. I definitely feel coconut and citrus notes, it's very refreshing. It doesn't leave any cast but I wouldn't be bothered even if it did.

Много е важно мислено да си отбележете, че спрей слънцезащитата е доказана да е по-малко ефективна, защото хората имат навика да нанасят по-малко и така не получават максималната защита. За да съм сигурна, че съм нанесла необходимото количества, просто слагам 2 слоя. Продуктът има много лека водниста текстура, която аз много харесвам. Не съдържа алкохол, който много слънцезащити имат (всъщност го купих, защото беше един от малкото, който нямаше), и ако използвам ежедневно наистина изсушава кожата ми. Спреят е наистина много хидратиращ и оставя кожата ми с един защитен слой, но не се усеща тежък или лепкав когато е много горещо. Не бих го нарекла спрей със сухо усещане, защото не оставя матов завършек, даже придава един много красив блясък на кожата, който аз много много харесва (Хората като мен, които не могат да хванат тен, се радват дори и на блясъка на слънцезащитата си, хаха). Този продукт трябва да има най-уникалният аромат, който съм подушва в слънцезащита и издържа цял ден! Даже е нещо като летният ми парфюм. Определено усещам кокосови и цитрусови нотки, много е освежаващ. Не оставя бял отенък, но не би ми пречило дори и да го правеше.

In a nutshell, I really really love this sunscreen. It's moisturizing, it's not sticky or heavy and it leaves my skin glowing. The application is really easy and the fragrance is a dream. I think I've found my body holy grail sunscreen and I am definitely going to repurchase it once I run out of it this summer. I haven't found a more cosmetically elegant sunscreen that's waterproof and with such a good protection. I highly recommend it to those of you wondering what to pick up this year. Especially if you hate icky feeling sunscreens with tons of alcohol. Обобщено, много си харесвам този слънцезащитен спрей. Хидратиращ е, не лепне, не е тежък и оставя кожата сияйна. Нанасянето е много лесно, а ароматът е мечта. Мисля, че намерих любимата ми слънцезащита за тяло и определено смятам да си го купя пак, щом го свърша това лято. Не съм намерила по-козметично елегантна слънцезащита, която е водоустойчива и с добра защита. Силно препоръчвам на тези, които се чудят какво да вземат тази година. Особено, ако мразите лепкави слънцезащити с един тон алкохол.
